Dasso Statement on North American Operations

Hangzhou Dasuo Technology Co. Ltd. (Dasso) Concludes Annual Meeting By Issuing Statement on North American Operations

Hangzhou, China: Hangzhou Dasuo Technology Co. Ltd. (Dasso), one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of bamboo products worldwide, issued a statement from its headquarters that may have a significant impact on the bamboo exterior decking industry in the United States. The announcement came after several days of meetings at the company’s world headquarters in Hangzhou, China during the week of April 16, 2018, with many high-ranking board members, executive officers and corporate representatives from Dasso, as well as Dasso’s expansive group of subsidiaries and affiliated entities, in attendance. A major topic discussed at the company’s board of director’s meeting concerned a former, terminated  factory manufacturing and selling counterfeited exterior bamboo decking product to distributors, who then mislead consumers, suppliers and dealers by claiming that the counterfeited product is manufactured at a Dasso contracted factory.

Of particular note, the statement released from Dasso identifies MOSO International, BV’s (MOSO) as one of the distributors involved in the scheme of purchasing counterfeited exterior decking product directly from Dasso’s former  factory and importing the counterfeited product into the United States, beginning in 2017. According to Lin Hai, the founder and Policy and Technical Advisor of Dasso, “It is of great importance that customers, distributors and dealers of our patented exterior decking product in the United States understand precisely where we, as a company, stand on these issues.” The statement released by Dasso is a “buyer beware”,  and notifies and warns consumers, dealers, distributors and retailers that the product being sold by MOSO in the United States under the brand name MOSO Bamboo X-treme1 is counterfeited product being manufactured and produced at an unauthorized and terminated former factory. The statement also makes clear that Dasso has not merged with MOSO, is not doing business as MOSO and is not selling product as or under the MOSO brand, including MOSO Bamboo-X-treme, in the United States market.

Steve Shen, Dasso’s Vice President, was quoted as saying: “In June 2017, MOSO’s President, Rene Zaal, made multiple trips to China and requested permission from Dasso to enter into the U.S. market as an authorized distributor of Dasso’s patented exterior decking product sold by MOSO in Europe as MOSO Bamboo X-treme. After Mr. Zaal’s request was repeatedly denied, Mr. Zaal struck a backdoor deal with a Dasso contracted factory and began buying Dasso’s patented product directly from the factory without authorization or consent, which violated the factory’s contract with Dasso, as well as MOSO’s restricted distribution contract with Dasso. When the factory refused to allow Dasso’s representatives into the factory for safety and product inspections and refused to cease selling the patented exterior decking product directly to MOSO, Dasso terminated the factory’s manufacturing agreement on September 18, 2017. Despite its termination, the factory continues to illegally manufacture exterior bamboo decking product using Dasso’s patented processes and Dasso is pursuing the former factory owner for criminal prosecution and civil damages in China. Further, MOSO continues to purchase the counterfeited exterior decking product from the terminated and former factory in violation of the laws of China, the United States. We, as a company, cannot allow a former factory to continue manufacturing counterfeited product in violation of Dasso’s patent rights; nor can we allow a distributor to strike a deal behind our backs with a now-former factory and claim the counterfeited product is genuine.”

The statement released from the company also includes a direct quote from Dasso’s Chief Executive Officer, Frank Xu: “Our biggest concern is, first and foremost, for the safety of each end-user of our patented products. Our entire company’s philosophy is built upon the customer’s experience and satisfaction. Secondly, it is imperative that Dasso’s patented product is manufactured in strict accordance with our patented processes to ensure the safety, integrity, dependability and reliability of our products sold worldwide. Each factory that manufactures our patented product is contractually required to adhere to stringent manufacturing guidelines, inspections and onsite visits. This is non-negotiable and strictly enforced. Dasso’s product warranties only apply and extend to genuine product manufactured by an authorized contracted factory and does not apply to counterfeited products being sold in the United States  under the brand name MOSO Bamboo X-treme. In those markets, the only genuine, authorized and approved exterior bamboo decking products that carry Dasso’s product warranties are sold under the dassoXTR brand by our U.S.-based affiliate, Easoon USA, LLC.”

Dasso’s CEO concluded the meetings by reviewing the company’s financials. According to Mr. Xu, Dasso, including its many subsidiaries and affiliated companies, is financially strong and viable and continue to exceed projections and expectations. In fact, 2017 was Dasso’s most profitable, with the current year’s first quarter already outperforming last year’s first quarter in revenue and sales. Mr. Xu outlined and detailed several new innovative products currently being developed, and updated the company on new products ready for production and distribution. With the annual increases in revenue and profitability, the company unanimously voted to establish a committee to begin the process of becoming a publicly listed company in the near future. After a week of meetings, factory tours and a celebratory dinner, the future looks bright for Dasso.

Earth Day 2017 – 5 Ways Bamboo is Sustainable

Since Earth Day is tomorrow, consider a sustainable bamboo floor or fused bamboo outdoor material today! Dasso offers eco-friendly bamboo products: interior bamboo flooring available through EcoTimber and fused bamboo outdoor materials through dasso.XTR. If you are looking for new flooring or outdoor material, consider Dasso, because here are five ways bamboo is sustainable.

1. Bamboo is Rapidly Renewable

Did you know that bamboo is technically a grass? Actually, it’s the world’s fastest growing grass! A rapidly renewable material, bamboo grows for only five to seven years before it is harvested. Comparatively, hardwood grows for approximately 50 years before it can be harvested.

2. Bamboo is a Natural, Plentiful Source

Dasso Bamboo ProcessDasso’s bamboo grows in their own sustainable forests, where it is harvested and then manufactured in Dasso factories. After the bamboo is harvested from the forests, the root system remains intact to produce new shoots. Because of this, bamboo is not replanted once it’s cut.

3. Bamboo has a Beautiful Appearance

EcoTimber Bamboo FlooringBamboo doesn’t have to look like bamboo. Dasso bamboo flooring has a variety of floors, in different styles and colors. EcoTimber’s Foundations Collection features seven different colors and a strand woven construction that resembles wood flooring.

Because dasso.XTR fused bamboo does not include rays or knots like natural woods, XTR has a much more flawless appearance. Both XTR decking and porch flooring are available in a reversible profile with smooth and reeded faces, allowing for more design possibilities.

4. Bamboo Contains No VOCs

EcoTimber bamboo flooring contains no VOCs and no added formaldehyde. Additionally, they either have a natural finish, or use a low-VOC water-based finish to severely limit the number of unsafe chemicals in your home.

dasso.XTR Fused Bamboo is made up of 87% natural, fused strand bamboo fibers and 13% resin. Because the resins used to create XTR are thermal setting and non-reversible, dasso.XTR Fused Bamboo contains no VOCs.

5. Bamboo has Natural Strength

dasso.XTR has a Janka hardness rating of 3,820lbf. XTR is durable because of dasso’s patented process, which combines two stages of high heat to first carbonize the bamboo and then restructure the bamboo, reinforcing its natural strength characteristics.

Additionally, bamboo naturally resists mildew and insects. It also resists dust mites, making it a good choice for those who suffer from allergies.

Both dasso.XTR and EcoTimber are proud to offer eco-friendly bamboo that is perfect for your home. Contact us today to learn more about the available products at EcoTimber and dasso.XTR.

dasso.XTR, Environmentally Friendly Fused Bamboo Decking

Bamboo decking, it’s typically not the first choice for a decking material, but why shouldn’t it be? Bamboo is an environmentally friendly material that is beautiful, reliable and durable, so dasso.XTR’s fused bamboo decking is a perfect option!

Traditionally, decks are built using hardwood. Wood decks typically use exotic hardwoods that are sourced from South America, where deforestation is an environmental concern. Unlike most hardwoods, which must grow for 50 years or more before they can be harvested, bamboo is a fast-growing grass that can be harvested every 5 to 7 years. Because of this rapid renewability, bamboo is one of the most environmentally friendly and sustainable building products available.

Fused Bamboo Decking

Fused Bamboo Decking Processdasso.XTR specializes in fused bamboo, made specifically for exterior use. All bamboo is carbonized, or heat treated before outdoor use, however, when bamboo is heat treated it becomes very brittle. dasso.XTR’s patented process eliminates this issue by applying a second heating stage. In the second heating stage, lignum, a natural binder in bamboo fiber, is melted and reset, returning the bamboo to its natural rigidity. That lignum provides more strength and gives all XTR boards a Janka hardness rating of 3,820 – a stronger and more durable board than most hardwood materials.

Characteristics of Bamboo – A Highly Sustainable Material

What is bamboo?

Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on the planet. A member of the grass family, bamboo is known for tall hollow stems that reach their full height in just one growing season. Over the next few years the fully grown bamboo stem continues to harden and mature. Bamboo is highly sustainable and can be harvested approximately every four to six years.

History of bamboo

Characteristics of bamboo make it good for musical instrumentsBamboo has been used for everyday objects for over 4000 years. In China, which has relatively few hardwood forests, bamboo has traditionally been used to make everyday items including dishes, musical instruments, chopsticks, and even furniture. Because of the durability of bamboo we have examples of these items that are thousands of years old.

Characteristics of bamboo

2 Bamboo StalksThere are approximately 1200 different species of bamboo and both the species and the growing conditions will affect the characteristics of each individual bamboo stalk. In general bamboo is very durable. The outer layer of the stem is quite dense and strong. Bamboo is both flexible and elastic. As a result items made from bamboo tend to be very resilient and resist breaking when placed under stress. Bamboo does not have rays or knots the way wood does, this means that stress applied to the bamboo is evenly distributed over the surface.

Modern uses of bamboo

Bamboo is still used to make dishes, chopsticks, furniture and musical instruments. In addition, it is frequently made into paper, fishing rods, cutting boards, and even filters for water desalination. It can be used for bamboo flooring, decking, decorative paneling, and siding. Because of the natural characteristics of bamboo houses that are built with it are both earthquake and cyclone resistant.
